"FIVE SENIORS TO SKATE IN THEIR LAST GAME AT AAC GAME VS OU"

The tough and emotional 2008-2009 Red Raider hockey season will be coming to a close this March.8th, 2009 at the AAC after the Dallas Stars take on the NHL Eastern Conference power house the Canadiens of Montreal at 5PM. Tech will look to face their Big XII rival the Sooners from Oklahoma for the Big XII Conference Challenge Cup at 7:45PM right after the Stars vs Habs NHL game. Its 2 games for the price of one, purchase your Stars ticket and get into the Tech vs OU game. Stars season ticket holders get in for free and all proceeds from the Big XII hockey game go to their respected hockey programs.

Five seniors will skate their last game as Red Raider hockey players and Coach Fioroni and his staff wish them the best. Journeyed defenseman #17 Cole Kamp, #12 team captain John Griffith, all-time Texas Tech Hockey point getter and All American #7 Kevin Mayoux, veteran leading forward #13 Sean McDougle and all-star veteran goal-tending stand-out #30 Michael Pruneau. All 5 seniors will start the game and a special awards ceremony will follow the game for the five veteran Texas Tech hockey players.

The two hockey programs from the south will meet for the 5th time this season as the mighty Sooners have taken all 4 previous matches out-scoring your Red Raiders by an astounding 30-8 margin. Tech Hockey has yet to beat Oklahoma in a hockey game to date and hope to make it a first this upcoming March.8th at the AAC as they defend their AAC Big XII Challenge Cup in which they defeated Texas A&M last season 4-2. The Red Raiders and the Sooners will try and set a Big XII hockey game attendance record as both hockey programs will try to out-draw one other.

Coach Fioroni hopes that his boys in Red and Black are ready for this Big XII tumble in the Big D; "When you think of hockey elite in the Big XII there are few teams that come to mind. For certain this Sooner hockey team is at the top. They are a very well ran and coached hockey program and really have been a huge hurtle for us at present and in the past. We are looking forward to a great game at the AAC after the Stars play and are truly hoping to defend our Big XII Challenge Cup against these Sooners from Oklahoma", quotes an excited Coach Fioroni. The players have been working hard during their dry-land training sessions and are taking full advantage of their skates in Odessa. They can leave it all on the line as the Red Raider hockey team will officially end their season after the March.8th game. The Regional tournament for Texas Tech will probably not happen due to the lack of second half games that Tech has played and sitting at #12 right now in the West is just not enough to crack the top 10 who will move onto Salt Lake City, Utah for the Regional Championships. Junior defenseman and former Sooner standout #4 Jordan Novak plays this seasons final game with a heavy heart; "We worked so hard in the off-season and had such a great home to play at. It is just really frustrating that we will not get a chance for Regionals due to politics. Playing my former school is exciting though and to do it at the AAC in my own backyard after my Stars kick some Canadiens butt will be amazing", quotes Novak.

Texas Tech Hockey will continue to prepare for their Big XII showdown in the Big D and hope that the final rankings will be good to them possibly bumping them into the final 10th spot. Tickets and information for the double header hockey frenzy for your Dallas Stars vs Montreal Canadiens (@5:00PM) game and Texas Tech vs Oklahoma (7:45PM) game can be purchased through the Dallas Stars, the Oklahoma Sooners hockey program and your Red Raider hockey team.
