Release for Friday, March.13th, 2009
Brought to you by CIBER INC.
When April 2nd comes around and all of the All-Stars from each conference have stormed the Philadelphia, PA area the Red and Black of Texas Tech will be a very easy to see. Five of the top Texas Tech hockey players have been selected to compete in this years 2009 ACHA All-Star Classic Tournament in Philadelphia, PA.
Leading the way for your Texas Tech hockey squad is All American
all-time Tech scoring machine #7 Kevin Mayoux. Mayoux was also selected
as an assistant team captain for the Western All-Stars along with 2008
ACHA Select teammates Kent Arsenault from Utah State University who
will be the other assistant and Mike Truex of Eastern Washington
University who will captain the Western team in a few weeks. The other
Texas Tech All-American #19 Jerrin Ashford was also selected to
represent Texas Tech upfront as a forward. Both Ashford and Mayoux are
coming off a great offensive and team leading season both sharing as
this years team MVP and also Offensive Player of the Year honors. Coach
Fioroni is excited to not only be coaching the Western All-Stars but to
see some of his top players be selected as well; "I think people may
look at our record and ask why did I or any of my players get selected
to this team and the answer is simple, we deserved it. We have had to
play one of the toughest schedules in the league this season, deal with
adversities that no other hockey program in the ACHA had to deal with
and you know what, we finished our season with pride, hard work and
heart and could of easily been at Regionals or Nationals. Losing 9, 1
goal games, our home ice, our building, dealing with so many injuries
really hurt us this season but regardless of that these 5 players were
the best we have to offer and have played with nothing but pure
integrity and grit and pride, they truly deserve this honor to
represent the Texas Tech hockey program and their Western Conference."
Quotes Coach Paul Fioroni.
The other 3 Tech Hockey standouts were team captain and defensive wall
#12 John Griffith, flashy and quick offensive defenseman #14 Travis
McKinney and the the player with perhaps one of the hardest shots in
the league who plays with great defensive poise, #4 defenseman Jordan
Novak. #30 goaltender Michael Pruneau was also selected as the first
goaltender alternate should anything happen to the starters Greg
Finatti from Utah State University and Brent Seidel of Eastern
Washington University. Assistant captain #7 Kevin Mayoux had this to
say; "This is a great honor for all of us, what a statement for Texas
Tech Hockey to send 5 of our players to the All-Star team. We have had
a tough year and this will be a great finish to it. We all want to
thank Coach Fioroni and GM Dave Honecker for selecting us and
assembling the team. I am looking forward to reuniting with some of my
former ACHA Select teammates and also continuing with my current Tech
teammates who will be making the trip from Lubbock, TX to Philly. We
look forward to representing the Western Conference with utmost pride
and honor and hope to bring back nothing but great memories and a
tournament championship." Quotes Kevin Mayoux.
The Texas Tech contingency for the the Western All-Stars will make
their way to Philadelphia, PA in 3 weeks time to compete against the

their respected All-Star squads and will compete in a tournament style
format that will begin Friday, April.3rd, 2009 and will conclude on
Sunday, April.5th at 3pm.
